Paris Regional Health Launches Scope Out Cancer Contest

PARIS, Texas – Paris Regional Health recently hosted its first Scope Out Cancer kick-off meeting, attended by fifty-three students and teachers from Lamar County High Schools. The session, led by Internal Medicine Resident Dr. Connor Rodriguez and supported by the other residents, focused on the importance of colon cancer screenings, treatment options and provided an overview of the Endoscopy department at Paris Regional Health.

“We want to foster a community where colon cancer is no longer a silent threat,” said Dr. Rodriguez “We want early detection to become the standard, which is made possible through awareness, knowledge and collaboration.”

The Scope Out Cancer initiative by Paris Regional Health medical mentorship initiative seeks to increase awareness of the importance of colon cancer screening in Paris and its neighboring communities. It aims to inspire a new generation of health advocates while empowering the community to champion their health. High school students from Lamar County will work alongside Internal Medicine Residents at Paris Regional Health to devise innovative ideas and materials that highlight the necessity of early detection and screening. Each team will produce audiovisual content and strategic plans to effectively engage the local community through their awareness campaign, with presentations scheduled during a community event in the hospital lobby on March 27th, in observance of Colon Cancer Awareness Month.
